Cristiano Ronaldo showed everyone why he is the number one footballer in the world right now. Amid all the speculations of his knee injury, and with the World Cup Golden boot winner James Rodriguez coming in along with World Cup winner Toni Kroos, and that it will be Gareth Bale's homecoming back to Cardiff, Ronaldo proved once again that without him, Los Blancos achieving success is unthinkable.
Real Madrid are the team to beat this season. They have set the standard so high that nobody can dream to reach it, for now at least.
Carlo Ancelotti managed to sort the problems his predecessor left him with at the end of the 2012-2013 season, solved the loose ends that were beginning to tear the team apart, and tied them all together into one nicely knitted fur ball, where everyone is working for everyone.
Carlo Ancelotti's first XI is probably the one he'll use for the rest of this season, if long-term injuries are avoided. As for his counterpart at Sevilla, signor Unai Emre, he's still trying to figure out his best XI, after losing some of his best players this summer (Rakitic, Gameiro, Moreno, etc..).
It was exhilarating watching Real play the kind of football their fans pay to see week-in, week-out. This assembled generation of players can dream of achieving great things together. Their obsession before that final in Lisbon was la decima.
Now it's un decima.
That is how the club works. From their president all the way down to their groundsman. They want to win. And after the incredible signings obtained this summer, with the guidance and wisdom of Don Carlo at the helm (who has won his 12th final out of a possible 13, the only exception was that unrepeatable night in Istanbul), who is to say they can't achieve more??
